Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull opened the new headquarters of the Australian Cyber Security Center in Canberra. The office is said to act as a central hub to Australians when it comes to Cybersecurity related info, advice and assistance. The objective of the center will be to keep Australians safe from all sorts of Cyber Threats.
The new facility is said to house around 700 IT expertise and will be monitoring around 16 incidents per day. It will be the 5th center in line and will act as a hub to the other 4 which were established in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
Note- The Perth center was opened last month.
In a media briefing hosted yesterday, Turnbull said that the aim of the new center will be to offer three cybersecurity priorities
1.) to offer advice and assistance to businesses and the community
2.) to prevent IT disruption from offshore cyber-enabled crime
3.) To protect the tools used to fulfill functions by the Australian Signals Directorate(ASD).
Sixty-four-year-old Turnbull added in his statement that the new center will also coordinate with nations like UK and US to investigate, prevent and retaliate cyber attacks such as phishing, malware, and denial of service faced by businesses and governments operating on and offshore.
Th federal government added that from now cyber.gov.au website will replace a number of government websites and services related to security in cyber landscape. This includes websites such as ACORN and acsc.gov.au. The new website is said to provide a platform to report a Cybercrime and find advice on Cybersecurity in the Australian region.
