Microsoft has unveiled a new service yesterday that is aimed to detect ransomware activities on its Azure cloud platform. A team of experts from the Satya Nadella led Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center have unveiled a Fusion detection service for ransomware that will use Artificial Intelligence technology to find potential attacks that need immediate attention from security teams.
Therefore, as soon as any suspicious activity is observed on the Azure platform, the system sends an immediate alert to security teams to gather their attention.
Like, in July 2021, when the Fusion Ransomware Detection system was under testing stage, it sent multiple alerts to related professionals when Azure Sentinel Workplace was targeted by ransomware attacks.
Sylvie Liu, the Security Manager at Microsoft, confirmed the news and added that the alert will be provided in a detailed manner, like which device/s or hosts were targeted and the immediate actions to be required.
The machine learning tools that are being used by Microsoft will correlate data from Azure Defender, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and MS Defender for Identity along with Microsoft Cloud App Security and Azure Sentinel scheduled analytics rules.
Meanwhile, BlackFog, a Cybersecurity firm from Wyoming, USA released a report on Monday stating that a surge has been witnessed in ransomware attacks on federal organizations and schools as both of them are found practically deploying thousand’s of Microsoft Machines in their IT environments and it is better if such organizations deploy threat monitoring and other proactive security solutions to avoid any cyber embarrassments.
