Microsoft warns US Government of Facial Recognition Use abuse

For the first time in history, Microsoft which is a top American technology company has come into open to criticize the use of facial recognition technology by the US government. It says the abuse of the technology will create hurdles to the law of protecting people’s privacy and freedom of expression.

In a blog post published on Saturday, Microsoft President Brad Smith expressed the above-said concerns and added that the government should start looking into the possibility of forming a bipartisan expert commission to address the concerns on an immediate note.

It’s now a world-renowned fact that the American government is tracking the whereabouts of its citizens attending airports, transit points, political rallies, public gatherings, shopping malls, businesses, and highways for obvious security reasons.

But Smith feels that the US government under the Trump Administration is using the technology to make decisions regarding credit scores, lending, or employment opportunities.

Brad added in his statement that if this continues, then the scenarios expressed in the films such as Minority Report, Enemy of the State will turn into a reality.

The Microsoft Chief also expressed that tech companies operating in and around the world should heighten their responsibilities in providing security measures in all their upcoming products.

Meanwhile, in a statement released by Dan Coats, the Director of US National Intelligence, he clearly specified that the warning lights to US national security are blinking red- all due to the nations such as Russia, Iran, China, and North Korea.

Coats added in his statements that all the businesses, the federal agencies, military, state and local governments, academic and financial infrastructure are all on the threat radar.

Dan Coats confessed that the Department of Homeland security and FBI in coordination with some international partners have detected that the government led by Vladimir Putin was found intercepting networks related to energy, nuclear, aviation, and water on the US soil. And Mr. Donald Trump and the white house are taking measures to nip such attacks from the bud before anything devastating could happen.
