We all know that the future lies in the younger generation of now. And so Britain’s GCHQ is now all set to nurture young girl into code breaking in order to encourage women folks to take up cybersecurity as a career in the near future.
CyberFirstGirls is the competition launched by the UK’s Government Cyber Headquarters and is aimed at young female minds aged 11 to 13.
The surveillance agency of Britain is asking schools operating across the country to create teams of up to 4 girls who can tackle codes, crosswords, and puzzles. They will have a mentor as a team leader who will later introduce them to new challenges in networking, logic & coding, and cryptography.
The competition is set into three categories and will be time bound and those winning the challenge will be eligible for winning a 1,000 pounds cash prize which will be awarded to purchase computer equipment for the school, a certificate of recognition, and individual prizes to encourage young minds for participating in such future competitions.
“The authorities expect the participation of school children from over 1600 schools-private and public and the objective is to help girls develop new skills, gain rare insights into the world of national security and inspire tech-savvy girls to consider cybersecurity as a career”, said Chris Ensor, the deputy director of the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC).
Note- From January 21st, 2019, the 1st round of competition is expected to start. The registration for the competition will open from January 7th of this year.
More details are available on the official website of National Cyber Security Center aka NCSC.
