Ransomware attack on Aebi Schmidt

Switzerland based Aebi Schmidt which manufactures and supplies street cleaning and agricultural equipment has released a press statement today that its servers have been hit by ransomware attack.

As per a source from TechCrunch, the European heavy vehicle manufacturer running operations in the United States became a victim of the malware infection due to a phishing email attack.

News is out that all systems including those operating in the United States were down paralyzing the manufacturing and sales operations of the company across the globe. Email systems are also reported to be down in the incident.

Readers of Cybersecurity Insiders have to notify a fact over here that recently the company made its presence strong in the US after acquiring M-B companies which is into snow removal and cleaning machines. It also acquired winter maintenance equipment like Meyer Products and Swenson Products early last year.

A Facebook post of Thomas Schiess, the spokesperson of Aebi Schmidt confirms that the email systems, phone and sales systems were reigning under the ransomware attack. However, the details of the malware variant used to infect the database are yet to be known.

Ransomware attacks on manufacturing units have increased in recent times and aluminum producer Norsk Hydro and Arizona Beverages happen to be recent victims.

Note 1- Aebi Schmidt is known to produce snow plowing vehicles, de-icing vehicles, snow clearing machines, sweeping machines, airport technology, rail technology, and large mowers.

Note 2- It is known to supply entire Summer & Winter maintenance equipment vehicles to the government of Canada, Russia and in Northern parts of United States.
