Over 600 Cyber Attacks made on the UK says NCSC

National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) of the UK has disclosed that it has succeeded in thwarting over 600 cyber attacks on its country’s IT infrastructure in the year 2019. This includes those launched on government entities and educational institutions launched by hostile nation-states.

NCSC which happens to a cyber wing of Britain’s GCHQ, says that a major success was obtained by it through Operation Haulster, where software automated servers thwarted malign intentions of hackers from stealing sensitive credentials of more than 1 million stolen credit cards and protecting thousands of people from financial loss.

“All is being done by a healthy incident sharing program related to cyber threats and this includes information resourced from government, academia, IT, Managed service providers along with health and transport sector”, said Ciaran Martin, the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of NCSC.

Martin added in his statement that countries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea continue to pose as cybersecurity threats to his nation, and there is a threat that a large scale global cybercrime is being aimed at Britain.

After the 2017 WannaCry Ransomware attack on healthcare organizations, the government of the UK has become serious about protecting its nation from various cyber threats. As the incident brought into light the cyber weaknesses to which the healthcare and other sectors were vulnerable, the UK Government is now focused on improving those flaws with sophistication filled new-age technologies.

NCSC’s Protective Domain Name System (PDNS) service is one such cybersecurity measure that allows the authorities to spot a cyber attack on a hospital trust before-time. It is a system that was set by the center as a part of a £1.9 Billion cyber-security strategy.

Ciaran Martin hopes that more such technologies will be needed to make UK cyber safe from any kind of adversary nation cyber threats.
