Russia Yandex servers hit by DDoS Cyber Attack

A distributed denial of service attack has targeted Yandex, an internet company based in Russia. News is out that this was not the first time that the incident took place. It started in the first week of August and continued till the second week of this September.

Cybersecurity Insiders learnt from its sources that the IT infrastructure of multinational corporation Yandex witnessed a peak in the Denial of service attack, shortly known as DDoS attack on September 5th,2021, i.e. on teachers’ day this year.

The only good news is that the staff of Yandex thwarted such attacks with a 100% success rate with a record repel of 22 million requests per second (RPS) last Sunday.

Releasing the statistics related to the denial of service attacks, the internet service providing firm said that its servers witnessed 5.2 million RPS on its servers on August 7, 6.5 million RPS attacks on August 7th-9th, 9.6 million requests on August 29, 2021, 10.1 million RPS on August 31st,2021 and a record 21.8 million RPS on September fifth of this year.

Cloudflare, a US based security firm that offers services to defend against DDoS attacks, confirmed the news and stated that the attack launched on August 29th,2021 on Yandex was also recorded by its servers, thus touting it to be the largest for this year. The DDoS attack that targeted Yandex servers in Sept is yet to be probed.

Meanwhile, following the footsteps of Google, Yandex is all set to start field tests related to autonomous taxes from September last week this year. So, citizens using public transport in and around Moscow city will be offered some free rides to experience the future tech.

However, the new self driving technology will come into effect only after passing several trials in phased manner.

Those interested can use the driver-less cars from Robotaxis available from Yandex. Go application.

Russian news daily Vedomosti confirmed the news that Yandex was targeted by DDoS attacks recently. But failed to acknowledge the incident as a state funded act.
