A survey conducted by Cloud Security service provider NordLocker has stated that the year 2020 witnessed ransomware spreading gangs targeting over 35 industries of which Construction Industry was hit the most.
Revealing some names from their research, NordLocker stated that the Construction, manufacturing, Finance, healthcare, Education, IT and technology, Transportation and logistics, Automotive, Municipal Services and legal were hit the most.
With Construction firms topping the list of Ransomware targets, some might get a doubt about why they are getting badly hit.
Factually, such firms do not have any dedicated IT teams to monitor their infrastructure and so that’s making them vulnerable to sophisticated cyber attacks.
Companies affected by ransomware are not the ones that are disclosing about the malware. But it is the hackers who are revealing the details, while attempting to sell the information to interested parties.
In another report compiled by Mimecast, the average ransom paid to hackers by victims in US is $6,312,190. And those from Canada were observed to be paying a minimum of $5,340,000 to free up their data from the dreaded file encrypted malware threat.
Third in the list are those victims from UK who were found to be paying $850,000 as an average pay made to ransomware spreading victims, followed by victims from South Africa, Australia, and Germany paying $250,000 as a minimum pay.
Mimecast’s State of Ransomware Readiness report stated that over 40% of respondents reported they did not bow down to the demands of hackers and 13% of them admitted they negotiated the initial ransom amount and somehow freed up their data.
