Cyber Attack on Norway Amedia

Amedia, the Norway’s second largest media company, has issued a public statement that it was hit by a cyber attack that crippled its printing infrastructure affecting its newspaper editions on temporary basis.

Therefore, the digital disruption resulted in preventing AD companies from subscribing to publishing column spaces and subscribers from renewing or cancelling their monthly or yearly subscription.

Pal Nederogotten, the VP of Technology, Amedia stated the incident crippled the company’s operation to a certain extent and the attack consequences might be visible for the next few days.

Circulation of newspaper editions will be halted for a few hours on a temporary note and assured that its news publishing events will be resumed after a few days.

The IT Staff of Amedia are busy analyzing the incident and stated that they can reveal the full details only after their probe gets completed to the core.

Note 1- A source based on the condition of anonymity stated that the targeted servers stored info such as addresses, phone numbers, subscription history, customer names and such. However, the good news is that sensitive details such as passwords, search history, read history and financial info were being stored on a separate server and so such details weren’t breached in the latest cyber incident.

Note 2-Previously, the Norwegian government was hit by a sophisticated cyber attack in March 2021 and suspicion finger was pointed out towards hacking groups operating from either China or Russia- both cited as adversaries to Norwegian government.

Note 3- With a readership statistics of over 2.5 million, Amedia owns over 90 publications including Russia’s Prime Print and Avisenes Nyhetsbyra on its own soil.
