Government Communications Headquarters(GCHQ) of United Kingdom is said to have launched a cyber attack on ISIS in October last year to block its cyberinfrastructure capabilities to the core.
This fact was revealed by Jeremy Fleming the head of GCHQ who also took the opportunity to declare a war on the Islamist Extremist Group on behalf of entire Britain populace.
“We are not going to tolerate anymore when it comes to National Security and the well being of UK populace,” said Jeremy at a Cyber Security conference in Manchester, England.
The spy chief said that the UK will from now on test its cyber capabilities by launching similar attacks on enemy nations- all as a part of a joint military campaign.
Jeremy Fleming, the head of the country’s electronic intelligence unit added in his speech that the UK has systematically and persistently degraded an adversary’s online effort as part of a wider military campaign.
He added that from now on the cyber army of National Cyber Security Center, a unit of GCHQ will look to deny service, disrupt a specific online activity, deter an individual or a group, or perhaps destroy equipment and networks.
Note- Jeremy served the domestic security service MI5 (Military Intelligence, Section 5) for 25 years and then took over the job GCHQ chief last year. Actually, he was the one who replaced Robert Hannigan who left the office citing personal reasons.
Jeremy also took the opportunity to blast out the nation led by Vladimir Putin. He added that the Russian government widely uses its cyber capabilities to break into the infrastructure of other countries-especially governments.
Quoting the NotPetya ransomware attack launch on Ukraine’s financial, energy and government sectors, the spy agencies head said that the country doesn’t have any specific standards as they’re always seen blurring the boundaries between criminal and state activity.
