France President Emmanuel Macron has urged all nations around the globe to support “Paris Call” which is supposed to be a common framework for ensuring internet security, following a surge in cyber attacks on government networks around the globe.
The objective of the proposed agreement is to relaunch negotiations on the code of good conduct which have been held up since early 2017.
Speaking at the opening at the UNESCO’s Internet Governance Forum in Paris, Macron urged all country leaders to support the initiative and presented the same in the text which was signed by most of the European countries.
As per the text released by the office of Macron, the call was taken to respect people’s rights and protect them online as they do in the physical world. For this to happen, Macron feels that nations should get together and collaborate with private sector partners to establish online peace in the civil society.
However, developed nations like Russia, the United States, and China are yet to decision of Paris Call and have expressed their desire to disclose their minds by next week.
Macron’s office states that certain American companies like Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Siemens, Facebook, Google, ICANN, and the NGO Internet Society have expressed their desire to support the call. But Trump administration is yet to react to the issue.
The event was attended by dozens of technology leaders coming from across the globe. Later they were invited for a lunch at the Elyse Palace with Macron and his wife being the party hosts.
From the past few years, Russia’s interference in US Elections 2016 and German polls has been condemned by nations like UK and US. France wants to lead all nations against such state-funded interferences which take place in future via an agreement which has been signed so far by over 51 nations.
Note- Paris Call does not only include a secure internet but also calls for the removal of terrorist content and hate speech.
