Diligent Employees make firms vulnerable to Cyber Attacks

A survey conducted by EY Global Information Security says that diligent employees of organizations often make firms vulnerable to cyber attacks. So, the firm has specified in its Indian edition survey that untrained and unaware employees often prove as biggest cyber threats to their organizations.

Burgess Cooper, the Cybersecurity partner of EY Global has come to a conclusion that organizations now have learned the need to spend more on cybersecurity as it allows them to maintain the continuity of their business operations. For this reason, most of them have decided to raise the budget of their defense strategies by 21% in this year when compared to the previous years.

Readers of Cybersecurity Insider have noted that the survey was based on responses provided by 230 individuals coming from across various sectors that include retail, public sector, banking, health and automotive. The EY survey added that 87 percent of the organizations from the technology sector and 70 percent of the firms from the telecom sector consider ‘employees non-awareness’ as vulnerable points for cyber attacks.

“In recent times, most of the countries have made it mandatory for the firms to inform their users as well as the government when data theft or breach occurs. But only a few firms in the world and 7% of them in India are following the recommendations”, said a spokesperson from EY Global Information Security.

However, things have changed for better in recent times as companies operating across the world have realized the need to upgrade their organizational cyber security defenses as per the current trend in the cyber landscape- especially after Wannacry ransomware attack of 2017 added the spokesperson from EY.
