DNC provides a new checklist to defend political campaigns from Cyber Attacks

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has issued a checklist on Friday to defend political campaigns from cyber attacks. The objective in providing the catalog is said to offer web security tips to politicians and staff on to build secure passwords and how to defend their social media campaigns from malicious intrusions.

Last November, Congress demonstrated a growing interest in cybersecurity by drafting and passing a bill which helps defend the national interest from foreign invasions.

On Friday last week, the bill went through the Presidential desk which reiterated the security roadmap by making few changes to the security strategies to protect the ballot and the political campaigns from state actors.

DNC cybersecurity update also includes few points beyond the regular tips, such as using mail services hosted by Microsoft and Google, reviewing the privacy settings of Facebook accounts, answering online questions by following basic cyber hygiene and using encrypted messaging apps like Signal and Wickr.

Readers of Cybersecurity Insiders have to notify a fact over here that the checklist was presented after Mike Pompeo, the State Secretary said that white house under the leadership of Donald Trump will soon start to pursue economic espionage safeguards on deals made with China. Mr. Pompeo also added in his statement that the US is thinking to stop sharing info with allies which rely on Chinese tech.

Hence, will this decision show a direct impact on the relationship between the United States and some nations in Europe including the UK….?(as they do not treat usage of 5G equipment from Huawei as a threat to their nation).

Well, only time can tell a suitable answer to this question…!

Note- In March 2016, there was a lot of commotion in the media that state-funded hackers from Russia intercepted the email servers of the said political party to access critical info which was later used to influence the 2016 US elections eventually leading to the defeat of Hillary Clinton and win of Donald Trump.
