Bayer AG, a Germany based Pharmaceutical company and probably one of the largest pharma companies in the world have made an official announcement today that it became a victim of a cyber attack early last year. And after monitoring and analyzing its database until March this year, its cybersecurity experts came to a conclusion that no data was compromised during the incident.
“There is no evidence of data theft and selling of it on the dark web”, Bayer said in a media statement released today.
Chinese hacking group named Blackfly also known as Winnti Group is suspected to be behind the cyber attack.
Cybersecurity Insiders has learned through its sources that the china brand hackers somehow infiltrated into the network and succeeded in planting an espionage software into the database of the drug-maker in early 2018.
But somehow the intrusion and spying malware were detected on time i.e in June’18 and a detailed investigation was launched on an immediate note which concluded at the end of last month.
Bayer said that a Private Cybersecurity firm named DCSO and North Rhine- Westphalia’s cyber wing Police were pressed into service to investigate the incident.
Note- According to Kaspersky Labs update, Winnti Groups motive till the year 2013 was to intrude into online gaming networks and steal their source codes and digital certificates of legitimate software vendors.
