A survey conducted by Neustar says that there has been a significant 158 percent increase in DDoS cyber attacks in the second quarter of 2019 when compared to the same time last year.
The security report says that companies are still not in a position to identify these cyber threats in time to take necessary action to thwart such attacks which are deeply concerning.
Neustar in its Cyber threats and trends report quoted an example of Telegram which was disrupted in June this year due to a small scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack launched by China.
Citing it as a perfect example for a rising trend among hackers for launching small scale attacks, the Virginia based Internet Threat Monitoring and Analytics Company revealed that between April and June this year, over 75% of attacks which were thwarted by it were of less than 5GB per second or less range.
Furthermore, large scale DDoS attacks of 100 Gbps and more range were also detected to have decreased by 64% says the Neustar survey.
Coming to the longest duration of attacks, the internet analytics company says that it lasted for two full days, but did not mention the name of the victimized company.
“Companies fail to analyze the need to protect their digital assets against these disasters and this is giving a big boost to hackers to launch such attacks with great severity”, said Rodney Joffe, Senior Vice President, Neustar.
Note– A Distributed Denial of Service attack shortly known as DDoS is nothing but bombarding servers with fake traffic which ultimately results in server disruption.
