As hackers are getting busy in finding ways to intercept iOS and Android mobile devices, governments across the world are showing a lot of interest in looking beyond the said OSes to secure devices.
Recently, the Russian government through its national operator Rostelecom acquired Aurora OS platform build on Finland based company Jolla’s Sailfish OS. The technical objective behind this purchase was to build a secure mobile platform with end-to-end, reliable and trustworthy features which help keep the sensitive data secured from new-age hackers.
Russia has also made it official last week that it wants to offer secured devices to build safe digital society across corporates’ and state-owned companies with the help of Aurora OS.
Similarly, the government of Brazil has also made a similar stepping on this note. It has recently announced the launch of SIKUR Operating System which happens to be highly secure software meant to run on smartphones, trading stations, industrial IoT, PoS Machines and wearables.
The logic behind this invention/development is simple….look for options beyond Android and iOS- as they have now become a hot testbed for hackers.
China, India, Australia are said to follow the same shortly as they want to keep their online users and devices away from prying eyes of their adversaries and international hackers.
Note 1- China plans to make its Harmony OS as a national OS in the country soon where all computing and IoT devices are supposed to operate on the said operating system. So, Microsoft, Google Android, and Apple iOS loaded devices might find it hard to propel in the markets of China soon.
Note 2- Russia’s Rostelecom which rebranded Sailfish OS as Aurora has disclosed to the world that its home-developed Operating system is capable of managing calls, contacts, messages, can be used as mailing agent, has a browser, can access to media and files, and has all features similar to that of a device working on iOS and Android operating system.
Note 3- By the year 2021, the government of Russia is planning to migrate all the devices used by state officials to the Sailfish OS. And the project is said to cost nearly $2.4 billion.
