Jet2 Cyber Attack launched due to a revenge attack of a contractor

Jet2, a British airliner is in news for getting one of its employees sentenced for a 10-year jail for launching a cyberattack on the company’s IT infrastructure.

Going deep into the details, the year 2017 witnessed Jet2 IT contractor named Scott Burns face disciplinary action against him for an incident at a roadshow in Benidorm in 2017.

Out in rage, the contractor launched a cyber attack on the database in 2018 disrupting the airliner’s computer network for almost 12-16 hours costing the low-cost airline’s service provider a £165,000 financial loss.

Leeds Crown Court of UK heard the plea from Jet2 and confirmed that the deed proved to as a complete disaster to the Yeadon based company. Thus, Burns was asked to face a 10-month jail term for the revenge attack.

Judge Stubbs also heard the plea from Burns lawyer Micheal Walsh for the suspension of the sentence and rejected it right away.

Note 1- Cybersecurity Insiders has learned that Burns used his login credentials to access the company system and delete some user accounts. He also fraudulently used admin privileges in Jan 2018 to make some financial transactions into his favor and indulged in cancellation of some flight bookings on a deliberate note.

Note 2- Jet2.com offers charter flights from the United Kingdom to elite persons and is business since 1983. It holds a UK’s Civil Aviation Authority license to carry passengers, cargo and mail on aircraft- restricted to 20 seats.
