As biometrics are replacing the passwords and pins, a company has come up with jewelry which has an embedded fingerprint used to authenticate a digital payment and unlock an iPhone.
What’s amazing in this saga is that the jewelry ring was developed by a Cybersecurity firm and not a regular jewelry brand.
Russian security firm Kaspersky has developed a finger ring that has a unique fingerprint pattern used to unlock any iPhone or authenticate a payment.
Reports are in that a Swedish jewelry designer Named Benjamin Waye worked with Kaspersky to design the 3D Printed ring which can compromise any fingerprint-based authentication.
News is out that Kaspersky doesn’t want to commercialize the design embossed on the ring as it can reach the wrong hands leading to more crime.
The objective behind the security company in releasing the 3D fingerprint enriched by art and technology is to prove that biometric data is at risk of being compromised.
But that doesn’t mean people should stop using such technologies to secure their cyber presence. It is only to highlight the fact that fingerprints can be duplicated on an artificial note which could put authentication of digital payments at risk.
Note 1- Kaspersky’s says that it is working for an online landscape where users need to opt for cyber-immunity, unlike Cybersecurity. This will happen when computers and related devices like smartphones and tablets are built with security to the core and do not require a security solution to be included as an add-on.
Note 2- In the next two years, Kaspersky is aiming to release a secure operating system that has been designed to make computing devices cyber immune.
