Google has made an official announcement that it has filed a lawsuit against a blockchain on botnet operators to pressurize Russian government to take stringent action against cyber criminals operating from its region
The tech giant also revealed that the botnet operators have so far compromised around 1 million Windows PCs around the world, with over a thousand of machines added daily.
As per the Threat Analysis Group (TAG) of Google, the criminals are using such compromised devices to mine cryptocurrency, steal credentials from victims, and use them as proxies to hide their attacks.
One highlight of these malicious devices in a network is that they are being used to distribute a malware named ‘Glupteba’ that is being installed on pay-per-use basis via fake YouTube video links, pirated software, malicious windows office docs and such.
As cyber crooks are using decentralized blockchain networks to operate such compromised devices, Google has taken the help of the legal system to prosecute the threat actors behind these platforms to avoid potential shutdowns and disruptions in near future.
The Alphabet Inc’s subsidiary believes that those behind Glupteba are from Russia and so the internet juggernaut stated it has filed a class action suit against the criminals in the Southern District Court of New York, against claims such as trademark infringement, computer fraud and abuse and other claims.
Wonder how much pressure will such lawsuits put on the Putin led government…?
