How is the CISSP-ISSMP Exam Changing?

CISSP-ISSMP certificationThe CISSP-ISSMP exam will be changing on November 15, 2022. This exam is the most recent of the (ISC)² examinations to be updated as part of the Job Task Analysis (JTA) process. All (ISC)² certifications are updated on roughly a triennial basis following the JTA process.

Current certification holders are surveyed on how often they use the knowledge, skills and abilities represented in the exam outline. Subject matter experts update the exam outline, and the exam itself, based on that feedback to ensure the CISSP-ISSMP exam reflects the most pertinent issues facing cybersecurity management professionals. These updates ensure that anyone earning the CISSP-ISSMP at any time has been tested on best practices for establishing, representing and governing cybersecurity programs, and demonstrating management and leadership skills.

If you are considering the CISSP-ISSMP certification – which is only available to CISSPs – you may be interested in training. The Official (ISC)² CISSP-ISSMP course (online self-paced) will be updated in November 2022 when the exam changes go into effect.

Is the CISSP-ISSMP right for you?

If you hold the CISSP certification, you may be wondering what is the next step in your certification journey? If you are a CIO, CISO, CTO or a senior security executive, the CISSP-ISSMP might be the right fit for you. Domains of the certification include:

  • Leadership and Business Management
  • Systems Lifecycle Management
  • Risk Management
  • Threat Intelligence and Incident Response Management
  • Contingency Management
  • Law, Ethics and Security Compliance Management

If you have your CISSP and at least two years cumulative, paid work experience in one of the above domains and CIO/CISO aspirations, the CISSP-ISSMP demonstrates that you excel at establishing, presenting and governing cybersecurity programs. Holding the certification also shows strong management and leadership skills, whether you are leading incident response or a breach mitigation team.

If you’d like to be part of the process of writing (ISC)² exams, please check out our Volunteer Program to review available opportunities and submit your application.
