Ransomware attack on Roseburg Public Schools

School authorities of Roseburg Public Schools have confirmed that hackers targeted the school’s database systems with ransomware on Monday morning blocking access to the school district’s email, website, and software.

Gerry Washburn, the school’s superintendent confirmed the news and disclosed that the school’s IT staff were working alongside the law enforcement to decrypt the files as early as possible.

Mr. Washburn however, failed to disclose on who was behind the attack and the ransom details.

Note- Ransomware is a type of malware which encrypts all the files and blocks them from access until a ransom is paid.

Washburn said that the school has and will take all steps to bring back the digital systems to normalcy by Thursday this week. And will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. He also assured that no student data, parent or staff info was stolen or compromised in the incident.

Note- Roseburg is a Public School District in the US State of Oregon and has over 7,000 students enrolled from the communities of Roseburg and Winchester. The school has over 8 elementary schools, two Middle schools and one high school under its list.

Eastwood Elementary, Fir Grove Elementary, Fullerton IV Elementary, Green Elementary, Hucrest Elementary, Melrose Elementary, Sunnyslope Elementary, Winchester Elementary come under the list of Elementary schools of Roseburg District.

John C Fremont and Joseph Lane Middle schools come into the list of middle schools located in Roseburg District.

Roseburg High School is the only high school in the said district.
