MegaCortex ransomware spreading hackers demand $5.8 Million for decryption

Hackers spreading MegaCortex Ransomware are reported to be demanding $5.8 Million as a ransom to decrypt locked up files says a security threat report released on Monday by the security researchers of iDefense Researchers.

As per the statement released along with the threat report, Leo Fernandez, Senior Manager of the Malware analysis and Countermeasures(MAC) team reports that the operators behind the malware spread are only targeting corporate companies in order to become rich within no time and are using Artificial Intelligence propelled tools to maker their ransomware spreading campaign full automated.

Security researchers from Accenture say that the malware is highly sophisticated as it can kill any branded antivirus and ransomware solution and other PC security processes like Windows Security of Microsoft Windows 10.

Accenture security report claims that the hackers are demanding the ransom based on the size of the company and the data value. If the value of data is small they are just demanding $20k for decryption and if it’s a large-sized multinational holding data worth billions, then they are demanding $5.8m to free up the files for access.

The ransomware note from the cyber crooks says that the data has been locked from access with an AES256 and RSA 4096 algorithms which are used by CIA, NSA, and other military agencies across the world. They also claim that they work for profit and can decrypt 3 of the locked files to prove their caliber after receiving the payment in cryptocurrency.
