Canada Province’s Privacy Commissioner has issued a statement that the healthcare sector in the region was facing immense threats related to identity theft. So, John Haggie, serving as the Province’s Health Minister, expressed his solicitude that there is a high potential that data related to 1000s of patients and healthcare staff could have been compromised by now.
Michael Harvey concurred with the opinion of Mr. Haggie and said that by now hackers or threat actors might have used the information to conduct frauds by creating an identity of a person and siphoning money from his/her banking account or taking fake loads leading to financial risks.
Province Privacy Commissioner Harvey is urging the populace to keep a tab on their banking information and be vigilant about any unusual activity taking place in their bank statements. At the same time, Mr. John is asking the Canadian Provinces populace to never click on links found in emails & text messages sent by unknown senders and follow basic cyber security hygiene while online.
Meanwhile, Toronto Transit Commission shortly known as TTC has released a press statement on Monday this week confirming that the data related to its current and former employees was stolen in a digital attack that took place on October 29th of this year and it could be of ransomware genre.
TTC claims that hackers might have stolen data related to over 25k employees, and the stolen info includes names, addresses, social insurance numbers and some details related to vendors.
Good news is that the stolen info hasn’t been misused online so far and there is no evidence that the hackers might have sold it on the dark web.
