Passport scam foxing Texas populace with data collection

From the past two months, few of the populace living in Texas and surrounding areas are receiving a phone call from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Department that their passport was caught in a scam and so they need to pay a stipulated amount as a fee to delete their passport details from the criminal database.

Going deep, threat actors are seen impersonating officials from the San Antonio HSI to launch a malicious campaign threatening victims with arrests if they cannot pay them a stipulated amount.

Moreover, they are seen collecting card details to help the victims get the money transferred into the account of HSI Department of Texas quickly.

Reacting to the issue, the San Antonio law enforcement department issued a warning on November 4th and November 8th, 2021 urging the populace of Texas not to fall prey to such digital scams using a spoofed phone number of 210-979-4500.

The public are been urged not to respond to such calls on phone and reveal no bank information to the fraudsters in order to avoid trouble in the future.

“We do not make any such calls to public and if in case anyone receives such a call from the department, it is better to call the cops and check details with them”, says a statement released by the HSI department.

Those who want to report details of such online fraudsters can call to 1(866) 347-2423 and report it to the ICE.

Note- Information is out that the cyber crooks involved in such crimes are also seen playing smart with students who are seeking an admission in a foreign university. They are seen demanding from them payments in Bitcoins to remove their passport number of crime records.
