US President Donald Trump is reported to have authorized the cyber warriors working for his country to conduct cyber attacks on adversaries in a retaliation bid. Pronouncing the same the White House issued classified orders on Thursday last week, wiping away all previous restrictions put forward during Obama administration.
In today’s age, we need to be digitally sufficed as the old laws were too slow and cumbersome said a spokesperson from White House on Friday.
“Now our hands are not tied as they were in Obama era,” said John R Bolton, the National Security Adviser, United States. John added that the latest cyber strategy appears to give far more latitude for the US Cyber Command to act quickly without any or minimal consultation from the government agencies.
According to the Washington Post, the new directive called as National Security Presidential Memorandum 13 or NSPM 13 is almost identical to the plan derived during the Obama era i.e. before 2017. But the only difference now is that it offers more freedom to the cyber forces to launch cyber attacks on adversaries as soon as they try to defile the national security.
Note- during the US elections 2016, FBI and CIA have discovered in their investigations that Russia did try to influence the elections results. Keeping aside on how much success the activities gathered, Donald Trump doesn’t want his populace to feel insecure during the midterm elections which are going to be held in November this year.
For this reason, the 45Th US President has given full freedom to the cyber warriors of the United States to launch retaliatory cyber attacks on adversaries as soon as they feel “Cyber Threatened”.
Although some security analysts feel that such kind of government-endorsed cyber attacks will give rise to new tensions, Bolton said that it will create a kind of fear among adversaries that new cyber attacks on other nations can show the effect on their own nation’s political and economic stature on the long run.
