British Scientists is said to have devised an AI algorithm that can spot people who lie to police about being robbed for insurance claims. Scientists say that their newly discovered machine learning tool will have the ability to identify tele-tale signs in victim statements and will help curb fake reports.
The Irish Police got an opportunity to test the skills of the software tool and found that it was helping them in 80 percent of cases by identifying 64 false reports in just one week.
VeriPol is the name of the software developed by the experts from Cardiff University. The tool is said to use a combination of automatic text analysis and AI power to recognize when a person was lying or exaggerating an incident for reasons.
Readers of Cybersecurity Insiders have to notify a fact over here that every year over 5000 of false reports is submitted to the police in Britain- only to claim inflated insurance payouts or claims for crimes which never occurred in reality.
Generally, Law enforcement officials can detect some tele-tale signs on the very first view of some statements. But in many cases, they lose out to the victim due to lack of evidence.
And this is where VeriPol will prove worth its existence as it can use machine learning algorithms to carefully analyze various features in the text like adjectives, acronyms, verbs, nouns, punctual marks, and numbers.
Those who worked beyond the technology say that the AI software can help police forces save valuable time and effort in investigating the fake crimes. At the same time, it will also help discourage people from filing false reports as their lies will get easily detected within no time.
