Donald Trump Ransomware is on the prowl say Cybersecurity researchers from Cisco Talos. But they say that the malware only pretends to encrypt/lock down the files from access, but doesn’t do it in real.
Researchers claim that the ransomware called Trump.exe just tricks people in thinking that their computer will/has been infected by malware and the files will remain encrypted until a ransom is paid.
But in reality that doesn’t take place and the victims will have access to the files despite the warning. However, the pop-up message says that within a few minutes the PC data will get encrypted and so the victim should quickly transfer a small amount in Cryptocurrency to save their respective data in detail.
“It’s just proving as a revenue generative medium for hackers and they are making the best use of US President”, said Nick Biasini and Edmund Brumaghin of Cisco Talos.
The team of researchers led by Nick Biasini also discovered that a virus in disguise of screen-locker was also tricking users into thinking that they were locked out of Windows. Called “Donald Trump Screen of Death” the said virus is reported to have already victimized thousands of Win OS users so far.
Often renowned Political stalwart names are used by hackers to draw attention to the world. Cisco Talos says that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s name is one such word that is being used extensively by hackers to dub the latest ransomware and malware strains. Next comes the name of Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and others from the United States.
NOTE-Often Email Phishing Attack Campaigns and Malspam campaigns are also seen named after the names of Political stalwarts, Hollywood stars and football celebrities.
