University of Plymouth, England has established a Cyber-Ship Lab worth £3 Million to fund research and development work to help prevent cyberattacks on Maritime systems. Objectively the research center will act as a culmination point for talent, innovation, and sophistication and will help secure Connected Maritime Systems on Ships.
News is out that the study center is all set to provide human talent which will help assess weaknesses and vulnerabilities on ships when it comes to Cybersecurity.
As the lab is being developed in association with key industry sectors including equipment manufacturers, solution developers, shipping and port operators, along with Ship Builders and Cyber Insurance Companies it will be filled with an abundance of talent which helps thwart cyber attacks.
UK’s Maritime Technology Center will feature an electronic chart display and information system, an automatic identification system, and communications devices along with a voyage data recording and analytics team.
As the center will act as a hub to technological advancements in Maritime, it will offer dedicated talent to seafarers who will examine and alert the world and the shipping companies about the latest advances in the field of Cybersecurity.
The Cyber-SHIP Lab which is being funded from the past three years is all set to become self-sustaining soon to help address several complex and interlinked issues affecting the Maritime Industry.
British government is thinking to start up international collaborations as a part of its Industrial Strategy where information from the Cyber-Ship Lab will be shared with external sources which will further help strengthen the region’s economic growth.
