Cyber Threat to Pentagon Coronovirus Telecommuting

As the Coronavirus scare is petrifying all the people across the world, Pentagon’s top officials have chosen to embrace telecommuting technology to keep their Counterintelligence operations alive even during the event of a medical threat.

Unfortunately, the new way of work from home syndrome is proving as a blessing to hackers as they have every chance to intercept the communication at the internet or intranet level.

Technically speaking, employees from the Pentagon are being allowed to log in to their various intranets and email systems from their respective homes to meet their weekly work schedules.

But security researchers say that the communication medium they are taking up might somewhere or the other be intercepted by prying eyes of American Adversaries. This is particularly true as Russian GRU, Chinese Ministry of State Security and People’s Liberation Army Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran are always busy finding ways to attack the IT infrastructure of America.

A Department of Defense (DoD) memo released on March 9th,2020 is urging employees to take up “Social Distancing” to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. This can only be achieved when the employees start working from home which not only allows them to defend themselves against Wuhan Virus but also helps them to self-quarantine themselves if they catch the virus, unfortunately.

Now coming to some facts, although the Pentagon says that it has the high-quality infrastructure to monitor hidden eyes even at resident connections used by its civilian defense department employees, attaining secure communication for the data streams being transmitted across home residence servers is not that easy, say experts.

So, in such circumstances, telecommuting might prove as a bane than a boon to Pentagon employees…..isn’t it?
