As per the survey conducted by consumer watchdog ‘Which’ more than 100,000 wireless cameras manufactured by Chinese company HiChip and installed in UK are said to be super vulnerable to cyber attacks as they are filled with extreme software vulnerabilities which can be exploited by hackers anytime.
What’s concerning is that the company sells almost a dozen variant of CCTV cameras across Britain and in some parts of Europe. And almost all of them were seen exhibiting flaws like offering privileges to hackers such as access live footage from camera without the knowledge of the user, pinpoint location of the CCTV camera and its recording focus, or access devices connected to the broadband which the camera/s is using.
Which? also suggests that the same kind of security flaws are being exhibited by security cameras manufactured by Accfly, Elite Security, ieGeek, Genbolt and SV3C.
HiSense has condemned the report compiled by Which and is ready to cooperate with the watchdog in improving its device security. Also it admitted that its devices do exhibit security risks of low scale as they encrypt data moving between the device and the app.
“UK Populace believe that online shopping festivals fetch them wireless cameras at a low price point. But they come with a caveat of exhibiting security vulnerabilities and that can turn serious on long run”, Kate Brown the founder of a Cybersecurity startup in Britain.
Note- Any CCTV camera working with CamHi app is at the risk of being hacked. And CCTV camera brands like Alptop, Besdersec, COOAU, CPVAN, Ctronics, Dericam, Jennov, LEFTEK, Luowice, QZT and Tenvis.
