The National Informatics Centre (NIC), an office linked to the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is reported to have been targeted by a malware related cyber attack from an American firm via a Bangalore based company.
News is out that a server belonging to MEITY was hacked and a malware was induced into the network of the NIC that connects to databases related to all e-governance related data related to Indian populace that includes some information of VVIPs like senior government officials, Politicians, businessmen and the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi Ji.
Cybersecurity Insiders has learned from its sources that the security breach took place when one employee clicked on an email sent by a Bengaluru based company linked to United States.
Delhi police have registered a complaint in this regards and released a press statement a few hours ago that only one server was targeted by a malware attack that wiped off the data on the server and the incident took place in the first week of September this year.
As the cyber attack is still under probe, more information on the attack is still being kept under wraps.
The name of the Bengaluru based firm and its link up with its parent company of North America are been withheld for reasons.
But unconfirmed reports say that the attack took place via a phishing email loaded with malware and sent by from United States through a proxy server from a Bengaluru based firm.
Note 1- The cyber attack information released by the Delhi Police comes amid allegations that China was conducting digital spying on Indian populace, including Prime Minister, the President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President- Venkiah Naidu and Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane.
Note 2–Beijing linked Zhenhua Data Information is the company that is facing allegations from Indian Intelligence for spying on Indian Populace.
Note 3- Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, a Chinese ambassador to India said that Zhenhua is not linked to any company in Beijing and added that the speculations are being cooked up only in the Indian media for the ongoing military row going on in Ladakh region.
