Microsoft has lost a $10 billion worth cloud computing contract awarded to it by the Donald Trump government a couple of years ago. And the Biden Administration issued orders related to the cancellation at the end of last week, thus ending the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) contract issued to the Satya Nadella led a company in 2019.
Officials related to the company that produces various versions of Windows operating system suspect something foul in the contract cancellation as it might next be handed over to Amazon Web Services that is owned by Jeff Bezos, the boss of $210 billion Amazon Business Empire.
US Department of Defense (DoD) has passed an executive order on this note and confirmed that the JEDI contract will no longer be relevant.
DoD also issued an update on this issue by stating that the contract was cancelled due to evolving requirements that couldn’t be met with the present contract terms and cloud conversancy and sophistication.
The defense department of North America has also clarified that it will soon seek proposals from new companies including Microsoft and will aim to draft a multiple vendor indefinite delivery- indefinite quantity agreement called the Joint Warfighter Cloud Capability (JWCC).
Having multiple cloud vendors creates a new variety of challenges as it creates interoperability troubles between systems.
So, putting all the data in a single cloud makes complete sense….isn’t it?
However, putting all eggs in one basket will lead to fresh troubles and that will lead to another story.
