China using AI to develop robots that can hide in sea launch bombs and cyber attacks

China is once again in the news for misusing the technology of Artificial Intelligence. Earlier, it was using AI tech to analyze loads of videos that were grabbed from the CCTV cameras installed across some of its major cities. The plan was to use machine learning tools and learn about the citizen activities taking place in front of the cameras in an automated way.

Privacy advocates across the world say that such mass surveillance programs do more bad than good as they make the populace get a feeling that their government never trusts them.

Now, news is out that the Republic of China is busy developing Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (SUVs) that have the potential to launch torpedos and cyber attacks on the digital infrastructure available in the vicinity.

These vehicles are seen changing the course, circling the target and hitting it with a missile or two to devastate the target. Information is also out that these unmanned vehicles have sophisticated devices installed in them that can launch cyber attacks such as DDoS and malware after connecting to a wireless network.

Researchers hailing from Harbin Engineering University who have been working on this project since 2010 have written theoretical studies related to the matter on papers. Their aim is to create vehicles that are capable to conduct underwater warfare and also can launch digital attacks by connecting themselves to the nearby internet resource like a mobile company tower or an ISP provider’s distribution hub- all with the help of wireless technology.

“All these days we have seen submarines fighting under water, but now automated underwater vehicles will be seen positioning themselves under water near the seaports and staying dormant for months or years until an order to destroy a target through missile or a digital attack is given to them”, Casey Boise, a senior researcher, Harbin University.

According to a post published in Reuters, an experiment is being conducted on this note by the Xi Jinping led nation at the Taiwan Strait where submarines holding AI tech are seen moving at 30Feet below the surface of sea.

More details awaited!
