Google to block G-Drive Cloud backups from Android Pie for Security reasons

Google has announced that it will block automated cloud backups to Google Drive (G-Drive) from Smart Phones which operate on its upcoming Android Pie (P) version. The company also added in its statement that it will no longer be able to read user data stored on its cloud servers by its Android P users.

The web search giant has announced that it is taking the above-said measures in order to secure user data with Android Pie.

Traditionally, Google OS-powered smartphones automatically back up essential app data and other things like call history to Google Drive Cloud backups. This activity is carried out by the internet juggernaut to ensure that switching between phones doesn’t become cumbersome to its users.

However, from now on the Android OS provider has decided to put a block on the regular practice. It also plans to combine Android’s customized backup service and Google Cloud’s Titan Technology in order to keep the backed up data and apps safe from hackers.
Moreover, all the encrypted info will be protected by the user with the help of lock screen pin, pattern or passcodes.

Therefore, all malicious parties will be blocked if/when they try to input several common combinations in an attempt to guess the passcodes.

In order to ensure that all these tactics are put right in place, Google has even hired a Cybersecurity firm named NCC Group to mitigate risks associated with its latest features. A security audit is expected to be carried out by the company for the next three months, after which the California based tech giant tends to induce the feature into its Android Pie OS.

Information regarding the phones backing up data to the cloud in the said encrypted form is yet to be revealed.
