This year’s (ISC)² Security Congress event took place at the New Orleans Marriott in Louisiana October 8-10, 2018, with nearly 2,000 cybersecurity professionals in attendance to share best practices, learn new skills and explore solutions to top challenges facing the profession.
With keynote addresses from Congressman Cedric Richmond, Jane McGonigal, Theresa Payton and Dr. Jessica Barker, Security Congress featured more than 100 educational breakout sessions on a dozen security tracks, including cloud security; critical infrastructure; cybercrime; governance, regulation and compliance; incident response and forensics; identity access management; privacy; professional development; research; software assurance and application security; and cyber threats.
Top sessions covered security awareness programs, blockchain (the future of cybersecurity?), risk management, securing industrial control systems and the value of cyber insurance. Winners of the 2018 Information Security Leadership Awards were announced during Tuesday’s luncheon. Attendees were also able to participate in on-site competitions for prizes in both Panoply and Secure Code Warrior’s Cyber Range Tournament.
More than 30 security vendors were on site to meet with the attendees in the Expo Hall and demonstrate their products and services. Returning to the Expo Hall this year was the Career Center, where professionals could have their resume reviewed, get advice from hiring managers and meet with CyberSN to find job opportunities.
The conference concluded with a Networking Night at Mardi Gras World where attendees and their guests dined on New Orleans cuisine, danced, sang karaoke and celebrated a week well-spent.
