As the whole of Britain was busy yesterday with the discussion of leaving European Union on March 29th, 2019, social media giant Twitter says that trolls from Russia and Iran were found super active on its platform by spreading disinformation and discord in the West with over 10 million tweets.
The messaging app said that most of the trolls were being operated by fake accounts from Russia and Iran as each of the trolls was found tweeting posts with hashtag ReasonstoleaveEU more than 1K times- just to disrupt the procedural functioning of UK referendum votes.
Twitter confirmed just a few hours ago that most of the tweets originated from thousands of accounts being operated by Web development firms from Iran and Russia. It added in its statement that 4,500 suspect accounts were tracked down by its content monitoring servers out of which 3,841 were found to be from Russia and 770 from Iran. The accounts were found spreading misinformation and discord via pictures, videos and other media related content scrapped from a range of news resources dating back to 2009.
Twitter, which happens to be America’s renowned online news and social networking service, said that it will continue to proactively combat nefarious content to protect the integrity of its network.
