Oracle Executive Chairman Larry Ellison openly criticized the Cloud Security measures taken up by Amazon on its public and private cloud. As expected the words were spoken at the annual Oracle OpenWorld 2018 Conference held in San Francisco by the Oracle’s Co-founder who is known to use his own company’s technology conference to criticize his rivals.
Previously companies like Salesforce, SAP, and Microsoft were targeted and now Ellison condemned the security measures taken up by companies like Amazon, Google, and Facebook.
As cloud computing is proving as a profitable business to corporate companies- all thanks to the rise of virtualization technology; companies like AWS and Microsoft are seen leasing out their computing resources in their server farms on Pay-as-you-go basis.
Ellison says that Amazon is known to run its AWS cloud control code on the same machines as it stores corporate data which can spell a disaster to clients when bad actors sneak into the network- leading them to access data stored on the servers by the clients.
“As nothing much can be done with the current architecture of Amazon cloud, those hosting their apps or storing their critical data are at immense risk”, says Ellison.
Larry added in his statement that despite this flaw, Amazon is seen boasting about its cybersecurity technologies as superior to their competitors.
Note- No matter who says what against Amazon, technology analysts say that online retailer still holds the top position in the world of Cloud Computing. Endorsing the same, recently research firm Gartner said that Amazon held about 51% of the overall cloud computing market in 2017 followed by Microsoft with 13.8%, Chinese company Alibaba at 3 with 4.6% stake and Google with 3.3% share. IBM stands last at the 5th position with 1.9% share and FYI; Oracle did not even qualify to get into the list.
