Nagle Catholic College(NCC) shortly known as Nagle, an Independent Roman Catholic Co-Educational School located in Western Australia says that bank details and signatures of parents belonging to the day schools students were leaked in a highly sophisticated cyber attack.
Rob Crothers, the Principal of Nagle confirmed the news and added that his school was a part targeted in a widespread cyber-security attack which began on June 11.
Mr. Crothers said that the infiltration into the school network was caused when one of the college staff mistakenly opened a malicious link sent via email to the college located in Geraldton- some 400 Kms North to Perth.
So, all those parents who have submitted their bank details for fee payments and refunds via email to the school are being requested to keep an eye on their account transactions for the next 6 months.
Certainly, all the info, particularly of financial nature is vulnerable to be misused in future added Crothers.
As the data steal is large, a complete data theft report is awaited until a thorough investigation is done.
The head of the Catholics Schools in the State- “Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA)” was informed about the data breach yesterday.
Note- Founded in 1994, NCC happens to be a merger product of Stella Maris Presentation College of 1891 and St Patrick’s College founded in 1926. It is actually an Independent Co-Educational Secondary day school which won the “Best School” award in the Best of Geraldton Competition sponsored by Red FM.
