Merkel confirms Russian Cyber Attack on German Parliament

Angela Merkel, the Politician and Chancellor of Germany have expressed pain on knowing Russia has been launching cyberattacks on her country to steal 16 gigabytes of documents which includes one from her own parliament office and her personal email account.

Speaking to the lawmakers on May 13th, 2020, the 65-year old said that she has been working hard to bring the cordial relationship between Russia and Germany since 2015, but it is the other way round and it’s painful.

Highly placed sources say that prosecutors have already issued an arrest warrant against a 29-year-old “concrete” suspect named Mr. Badin working for Russian Military Agency GRU.

Merkel is sure that the hackers were after something which could be categorized into Intelligence data related to government organizations and institutions.

Merkel condemned the whole incident as outrageous and tagged the incident as a strategy of hybrid warfare.

On the other hand, Russia has been constantly denying of conducting any kind of cyber attack on Germany, the United States, and Britain.

In fact, a spokeswoman from the Russian Foreign Ministry also admitted that the only time Russian broke into the Germany parliament was in 1945.

Note- Merkel is one such woman who had and has been strongly raising her voice against Moscow for implementing economic sanctions- especially after the latter invaded Ukraine in 2014. However, her country needs Vladimir Putin’s support in some geopolitical fights with Syria, Libya, and Ukraine and so she has been trying hard to maintain a cordial German-Russian relationship.
