Scientists at the University of Bristol have come up with a prototype of Quantum Communication that they claim is extremely impossible to hack and can pave way for a fat better secure online communication, preventing companies from state-sponsored attacks.
Technically, Quantum Communication can be explained through ‘multiplexing’ where light particles are split to carry information to multiple users all at a time and from a central resource. Precisely speaking, it is a technology obtained by revolutionizing quantum entanglement on optical fibers spread across Bristol (for instance).
Researchers argue that this mode of communication will keep data of online users safe and secure from snooping eyes and could save companies from spending billions on various Cybersecurity measures like threat detection, analytics, and other automated solutions.
In general, quantum technology works behind the atomic and subatomic levels rearranging them as per the need. Now, the same will be used to transform the way people communicate with each other.
“It is a big breakthrough and could make quantum internet a much realistic opposition”, says Dr. Siddarth Joshi, a lead researcher at the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs at Bristol University. He added that this method in proposition could deliver a relatively cheap and scalable mode of communication that is hard to hack.
So, is quantum technology a replacement to the standard encryption technologies used in communications? Well, it is too early to predict now says William Archer, working on a similar secure communication technology project at an Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India. But it can revolutionize the mode of communication by engaging photons to carry information.
