Software as a Service(SaaS) providers are reportedly being targeted by ransomware in 2020 says a report compiled by Datto- a Connecticut based data backup company. What’s shocking about the survey is the fact that 64% of attacks were targeted at Microsoft’s 365 solutions out of which 73% proved to be successful.
Datto report on SaaS Services being hit by ransomware also includes the fact that 54% of Dropbox platforms and 25% of Google Workspace platforms were targeted by gangs spreading the file encrypting malware.
As most of the corporate employees have turned towards remote working through cloud applications, the trend is said to have increased security risks for businesses of all folds.
Among the 1000 managed service providers, 59 percent of them agreed that remote work because of COVID-19 has encouraged ransomware crime to many folds. While 52% of MSPs reported that moving client workloads towards the cloud has increased security vulnerabilities.
So, MSPs need to go for a multi-layered approach to security rather than a single product approach. Also awareness, educating employees about the current cyber landscape, adopting purpose built solutions also plays a key role in cutting down the cyber risks to a major extent.
Note- Datto is probably the first company to introduce a ransomware detection filled data protection platform dubbed SIRIS 3. It is actually a business continuity platform that also helps in disaster recovery, thus helping clients in preventing data loss and minimizing downtime. Datto’s SIRIS 3 platform has a potential to scan all data backups for any ransomware and is then ensured to be mounted for a quick restore at the time of need.
