UK’s Information Commissioner Office has levied a penalty of £1.25 million on Ticketmaster for failing to prevent the leak of its customers’ data from a chat bot related cyber attack that took place in 2018.
In the year 2018, the digital platform that sells tickets of various events then blamed a 3rd party software provider named Inbenta Technologies for offering software that was filled with flaws leading to the leak of customer data to hackers. However, the latest investigation launched by ICO has revealed a different side of the story.
“As the company failed to take stringent Cybersecurity measures to protect its customer data, ICO has issued a penalty which can be challenged by Ticketmaster in a specific time frame”, said a spokesperson from the data watchdog.
ICO claims that the cyber incident might have impacted over 9.4 million customers across Europe- over 1.5 million in UK alone. And reports are in that the hackers might have accessed details such as names, payment card numbers, expiry dates and CVV Numbers and much more in the incident. And info is out that over 60k payment card information of Barclays Bank customers and over 6k card details of Monzo Bank were accessed by hackers.
Note- Early this year, ICO penalized Ticketmaster with a £250,000 fine. And because of the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, the penalty has been cut down to £1.25 million as the business of the company is totally down, as many of the events have been postponed to next year or canceled on a permanent note.
