Although digital scams related to e-commerce are not new, the latest that was discovered by the CyberPeace Foundation has caught the attention of much news publishing firms across the world.
According to the latest report released by CyberPeace Foundation, hackers from Chinese Henan and Guangdong provinces reportedly launched multiple cyber attacks on innocent online shoppers of India in between October and November this year. News is out that the campaign was launched to grab sensitive information of those shopping on retail websites like Flipkart and Amazon.
Source reporting to Cybersecurity Insiders, hackers tried creating fake URLs in disguise of offers been presented by Amazon and Flipkart and circulated them through various social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter to trap victims and make money.
The CyberPeace Foundation says that the campaign proved successful to the hackers, as they earned in millions during the ‘Big Billion Days & Great Indian Sale’ sale genuinely offered by Flipkart and Amazon, respectively.
Chinese Threat Actors who launched the scams in disguise of Big Billion Days Flipkart spin the Lucky Wheel and Spin the Lucky Wheel is said to have trapped over 13,000 victims out of the 100 million online shoppers in India.
As the victims were lured with gifts such as iPhones, iPads and Oppo F17 smart phones, they became easy targets to the scam doers.

It is an online retail platform that sells products related to fashion, consumer electronics, home essentials, groceries and lifestyle related items. It gives an “equally tied” competition to American Retailer Amazon that also does business in India.
