Los Angeles Port ties up with IBM for a Cyber Resilience Centre to combat Cyber Threats

As cyber attacks on ports are increasing day by day, the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has made an agreement with IBM to build a Cyber Resilience Centre (CRC) safeguard the Port of Los Angeles from cyber attacks.

The focus of the centre will be to safeguard the digital infrastructure related to cargo flow and will aim to improve the quality, quantity and speed of cyber information sharing in the port community.

“It is a known fact that cargo services are data intensive, as a lot of information is generated and exchanged in the operations and processes of transit. And this is where a dedicated cyber information centre is needed to protect the entire Los Angeles port from cyber attacks,”, said Gene Seroka, the executive director of the Port.

IBM’s CRC will issue early alerts to the personnel managing the port operations that infact will help in securing the port down the supply chain ecosystem.

As per the details available to our Cybersecurity Insiders, IBM will build the CRC at a cost of USD $6.8 million, along with a three agreements of supplying the CRC with all related hardware, software and professional services.

Thus, after the establishment of CRC, the infrastructure will act as a focal point to all stakeholders such as occupants and cargo handlers to rapidly share information related to cyber threats among themselves to gain a better coordinated response.
