Google not to use Fitbit data for advertising purposes

Google has cleared the air that it will not use the newly acquired Fitbit Inc’s data for advertising purposes and said that it will keep all the monitored details secure on a separate servers away from prying eyes and compliance rules prevailing in different parts of the world.

To the uninitiated, Fitbit, a 2007 founded company offers smart products like activity trackers, smart watches, and other wearable technologies. And at the end of August 2019, Web Search giant google announced that it is going to gain the California based company for undisclosed price.

Soon, after the data watch dog monitoring the European Union stated that it is going to deeply investigate the acquisition-after process to probe some facts on whether the internet juggernaut is going to use the data of the newly gained firm for ads.

The deal that is expected to touch the figure of $2.1 billion has been approved by the European Commission in Dec’20 only on if the tech giant assures that it will not use the tracked data from Fitbit devices.

As of now, the Alphabet Inc’s subsidiary has assured that data of users from the European Economic Area (EEA) will be kept separate from other google services and will be available for access, only if the user permits. And the highlight of this pact is that the rules will stay intact for the next 10 years and might get extended for an additional ten years.

Note- Wonder what will happen after the Brexit takes place after January 2021. Seems like most of the tech companies will migrate their data to servers operating in United States as it makes it easier for the law enforcement agencies to spy on the data generated by the online users.
