Brewery company Molson Coors has made it official that its IT infrastructure was reigning under a major cyber attack that has brought its Beverage production to a complete standstill.
According to an update released through SEC filing, the company acknowledged the attack as a Cybersecurity incident that has halted the operations, productions and shipments.
Molson Coors, IT staff say that they are working 24×7 to bring back the systems to life though data backups and are also taking adequate measures to improve their security posture to thwart such attacks in near future.
Highly placed source say that the Chicago based company could have been hit by a file encrypting malware attack that could have brought the IT infrastructure operations of the multinational drink and brewery firm to a standstill.
Note 1- Earlier, the company was only called as Coors of the United States and as soon as it merged with a Canada-based company Molson in 2005, the collective reference of the company as Molson Coors started.
Note 2- From the past few months, especially after lock-down, ransomware spreaders are consistently attacking private entities for financial benefits. They first steal data and indulged in double extortion tactics until a ransom is paid. FBI has clearly specified in one of its statements released in Nov’19 to never pay a ransom as it not only encourages cyber crime but also doesn’t guaranty the return of the decryption key after a ransom is paid in Cryptocurrency.
