Joe Biden, the 46TH American President has ordered a serious criminal probe against the REvil ransomware gang that has targeted over 200 US Companies recently. The POTUS is also planning to make a personal call to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the attack that has led to shut down of more than 800 retail stores belonging to a Sweden-based ‘Coop’ grocery store as it couldn’t register its automated cash registers.
Sources reporting to Cybersecurity Insiders state that the attack took place through a US software supplier Kaseya that unknowingly pushed a malicious update to its software users making them fall prey to those spreading REvil ransomware.
Officially dubbed as Colossal Cyber Attack, the bad guys targeted and laced a desktop management software tool VSA with a file encrypting malware.
Security Firm Huntress Labs discovered this truth on Saturday after conducting a detailed probe and thus revealed to the world to enlighten them about the latest threat lurking in the cyber landscape.
Information Technology Management Software provider Kaseya that is based in Miami, Florida has acknowledged the news and stated that it is working with FBI to probe down the incident to the core.
It also released a press update that the ransomware attack could have affected nearly 40 of its customers, unlike what is said in the media that over 200 of its customers were hit by the Colossal (extremely large) Cyber Attack.
Note- A few of the republicans are busy accusing the President that he is soft on crime and weak against Putin. White house has urged the political community of United States to refrain themselves from accusing leaders of other nations, as it doesn’t sound good unless the intelligence community gives a confirmation on the issue.
