As Mid Term Elections in the US is fast approaching, Twitter which touts itself as one of the leading social media platforms has issued tips to spot fake Twitter accounts through which fake news is usually found propagating.
The social media giant has issued an election integrity framework on Monday where it stated new guidelines which could trigger its algorithms to ban certain accounts- depending upon their public behavior. And the guidelines are as follows-
1.) Any profile with an egg head will be scrutinized. So, you better find time in uploading a Picture of yours or better prepare yourself to get your account banned by the authorities.
2.) Those copying other’s profile images will also be banned.
3.) If the twitter bio is empty, then there is a good chance the fake account monitoring bots of twitter will mark it as a spam creator.
4.) If a twitter handle runs exact same tweets and the replies are followed by some text, then you can feel assured that the account will be blocked soon as such activity is going to replicate bot accounts.
5.) If your screen name doesn’t match the name of the twitter handle, it can confuse the scrutinizing bots to such an extent that they can mark you as a spam creator
6.) No account use in years can also make your account go on hold.
7.) Currently, the twitter’s following list is set to 2000. And if you want to go beyond that, then you need to get almost the same amount of people following you.
8.) Twitter handles which do not show signs of interaction with others are treated as fake accounts being managed by virtual servers.
9.) Also posting graphics or violence filled content, X- rated content, posting usernames and passwords of others, posting through company badges, using the handle for unlawful activities and posting abusive behavior can make the messaging company ban your twitter handle forever.
Note- the San Francisco based company is said to have blocked 50 Twitter handles belonging to fake Republicans as a part of a campaign to curb fake news on its platform before the 2018 Mid Term Elections.
