New York City(NYC) Mayor Bill De Blasio has launched a new mobile security app for Android and iOS platforms yesterday and said that it will help smartphone users to secure their handsets from the cyber threats prevailing in the current cyber landscape.
The basic objective of the ‘NYC Secure’ app is to protect New Yorkers from all kinds of web related threats and that too at free of cost. NYC Secure App was devised in such a way that it offers protection to a handset without accessing user’s personal info. Moreover, it doesn’t need a consistent web connection to operate.
Mayor Bill De Blasio said that the NYC mobile security app will alert its users as soon as they connect to a suspicious Wi-Fi Hotspot or if they have unsafe settings on their devices. It also has the ability to track down apps filled with malware and will prompt users to delete them.
NYC Secure uses 4MB to 6MB of data a day on Android and uses around 14MB to 16MB of data while installation. On Apple iOS the phone is found using 3MB to 5MB data on a daily note which excludes 7MB to 9MB of data to install and setup.
Note- NYC Secure app was devised by Zimperium- a California based mobile security firm. Since it is being funded by the City of New York it will not have ads and is approved by the Cyber Command Center of New York City.
