Meet the Snake Ransomware which encrypts all connected devices

The trouble with ransomware seems to be never-ending for online users as new ransomware named ‘Snake’ has evolved into the cyber landscape which encrypts all connected devices along with the targeted system.

Detected by the MalwareHunter Team, Snake Ransomware has been developed with the ability to obfuscate all forms of anti-malware solutions that any other previous forms of ransomware could have done till date.

A security researcher named Vitali Kremez of MalwareHunter’s team said that Snake first targets a system and then removes Shadow Volume Copies, and then kills all processes related to SCADA Systems, Virtual Machines, Industrial Control Systems, Remote Management Tools, Network Management Software and more. Then the malware starts encrypting files and then drops a ransom note with the title “Fix-Your-Files.Txt” where an email address and a ransom demand are mentioned specifically.

Once the ransom is paid, the victim gets a decryption key in return and hence the problem solves.

Bleeping Computer on Wednesday published a post that Snake Ransomware targets the entire network and the devices on the network rather than just a single workstation.

Hackers who have developed the version will surely hit the jackpot as the virus will infect the entire network instead of a PC or Two. So, the victim doesn’t have any other option rather than to bow down to the demands of the hackers at any cost.

Note- On a recent note, the FBI which previously issued a caution that companies should never bow down to the demands of hackers has suggested another way. Meaning, it has urged the victims to pay to hackers if there is no other alternative.
